This three-minute video show the amount of craft that goes into creating one of the most iconic Finnish designs – the Artek Stool 60. A stool the whole world fell for – and off – upon its release in 1965. To celebrate its 90th anniversary, the video follows from start to finish the updated process of making the stool. The magic begins in the Finnish forest and continues through a combination of human and state-of-the-art robotic touch, with each step shaping the modern classic.
Ten shooting days yielded ninety hours of material, and was distilled into a zen-like, magnetic, short documentary. It perfectly comes together as a sum of Mikko Ryhänen’s direction and filming (he also took the stills!), Janne Vartia’s editing and Matti Ahopelto’s composition. With us making all of this possible by guiding and carrying the project from start to done in our gentle yet firm hands.
